Kid-friendly Hot Springs in Colorado: Iron Mountain Hot Springs

A couple of days before a class trip, my daughter mentioned that she wanted to go. The class trip was to Iron Mountain Hot Springs so we cancelled our plans and figured out how to meet her class and drive 3 hours one way. I was frustrated to learn about this trip last minute, but our family had the best time and were grateful my oldest convinced us to go.

Iron Mountain Hot Springs is in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. We went with a group of families who had children between the ages 6 months to 18 years old, so I feel comfortable recommending it for families.

Iron Mountain has 16 different small mineral hot springs pools of varying temperatures between 98 to 108 and a large heated pool that’s great for the whole family including young children.

These hot springs are about a 3 hour drive from Boulder, CO. And the drive west on I-70 is so beautiful, the time flew by. 1-70 has some of the most beautiful mountain views of the scenic major highways in Colorado. You drive through tunnels and have beautiful views of the river and mountains.

When we arrived, the parking lot was crowded, but there was still plenty of parking.

We checked in and received wrist bands that gave us access to the lockers where we stored our belongings. The lockers are $2 each. There were also 2 family restrooms and separate locker rooms for men and women.

The hot springs have a large fresh water family pool, where we spent most of our time and several smaller natural mineral pools that I was able to enjoy by myself. There are 14 different minerals in the mineral pools including iron, sulfate, chloride, sodium, and calcium. Iron and sulfate are known for their relaxing qualities.

They also have a cafe that sells snacks and alcohol. One thing to note is that children under 5 are not allowed in the small mineral pools.

They do require reservations right now for a 2.5 hour visit, which was the perfect amount of time for us.

We were there during the sunset and it was just so beautiful. Admission is $26-$28 depending on age. 2 and under are free.

Many of the hot springs look right into the mountain views.

Look at this reel on instagram to get a better look at the hot springs: Iron Mountain Hot Springs Reel. We were lucky to catch the sunset while we were there and it was absolutely beautiful.
