Road Trip to Ignacio, CO

We are obsessed with road trips right now. There are just so many benefits to packing up the car and heading a few hours out of town. Here are just a few:
- You get to explore more of an area when you drive and can stop anywhere you want on the way there and on the way back.
- There’s no pressure about missing flights. You have so much flexibility in the schedule.
- You can take short trips with less expenses. Only have 2-3 days? Perfect! That’s plenty of time for a road trip adventure.
On our most recent road trip, we went to Ignacio, CO.
Ignacio is centrally located between so many amazing places, including Mesa Verde, Durango, Pagosa Springs, and New Mexico.
Where we stayed
We stayed at the beautiful Sky Ute Casino Resort, which is owned and operated by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.
`This resort is the perfect place for families. They have so many amenities that are adult and kid friendly. I love discovering a place where everyone in the family is welcome and can have a great time.
Here are some of the amenities they have:
- a bowling alley
- playground
- arcade
- miniature golf
- pool that’s open until 11 pm. Ask me how I know!? Haha!
They’re also home to Seven Rivers, which is rated the top restaurant in the area, and is absolutely delicious. They have plenty of steak and seafood options. I tried the shrimp scampi stuffed with crab. The waiter recommended it to me, and it was some of the best scampi I’ve ever had. (Check out this reel to get a look at the food.)
They had a kids’ menu with plenty of options. My kids had the fish and fries. They mostly just ate the fries because the waiter mentioned ice cream. This was perfect because we took the fish back to the room for a late night snack.
The kids’ favorite part of the hotel was the bowling alley and arcade. They had so much fun, they didn’t want to leave. Anaya scored the highest score in bowling and beat all of us. She was so proud, she’s still talking about her win.
Our room
We decided to get 2 hotel rooms for this stay. They had a connecting door. Our room had a king sized bed and the kid’s room had two queen sized beds. They were excited to have their own TV. They voted on what to watch and Ali said, “Yay! We don’t have to watch mommy and daddy’s boring grownup shows!” I don’t know why he thinks House Hunters is boring.
I was excited to have two bathrooms with tubs. It made the morning and evening routines flow so much easier.
One travel hack I want to share with you is to always bring dinner with you to a hotel the first night. We stopped on the way to the hotel and grabbed some noodle bowls the kids love, and it was perfect. We didn’t have to go looking for food after a 6-hour drive to the hotel. Plus, I wanted everyone in bed early so we could explore the surrounding areas and the fun resort the next day.
In the morning, before heading out, we stopped at Willows Cafe Bistro in the hotel. The kids got pastries, Matthew got a hot chocolate, and I had one of the best Chai Lattés with oat milk. It gave me just the boost I needed for a busy day.
Although we were only away for 3 days, we got to hang out in the resort, visit Mesa Verde, drive down to New Mexico, and chill in the hot springs in Pagosa Springs.
Everyone had a great time.
