Roxborough State Park with Kids

We visited Roxborough State Park in Colorado over the weekend and it was so beautiful. This park is about 45 minutes from Denver, but feels like another world.

With almost 4,000 acres, the park has beautiful trails to explore with red rock formations. While we were there, we saw a wild turkey with her baby turkeys in toe.

We hiked the Fountain Valley Loop Trail.

A few feet into the trail, theres an overlook thats perfect to take pictures. It has amazing views of the park and the red rock formations. There’s a sign pointing to the overlook so you can’t miss it. It takes just a couple of minutes to walk to from the trail.

There’s no climbing on this trail, which my son was not excited about. But it was a great lesson for him to respect the rules of different parks. And don’t forget to leave no trace!

The park is beautiful. We can’t wait to go back and explore some more. Check out my reel to see more of the park: Roxborough State Park

Below is a photo of the house that is on the trail. It is a 2 story stone house built in the early 1900s by Henry S. Persse. It’s really interesting to see and read about, especially for the kids. It provided a nice break on the hike.

You also may want to stop at the visitor’s center. Its walking distance from the parking lot and the beginning of Fountain Valley Trail. They had great tips and suggestions for kid friendly hikes.
