Denver: Free Candy Factory Tour

When I first found out about Hammond’s Candy Free Factory tour, I was so excited. Who doesn’t love candy? And I was really excited for us to be able to see how the candy is made.

The first thing you need to know is that right now you need a reservation in order to tour. I booked our tour about a week before and there were still plenty of availability throughout the day.

The tour last about 30 minutes and starts in a small theater where you watch a movie about how the company was founded and has evolved over time. I learned a lot during the movie. I didn’t know they sell candy to Nordstrom, Target, and Wholeoods.

The short film also was entertaining enough to keep my 4, 7, and 9 year olds engrossed in it. My 1 year old is another story, but I was able to stand in the back and keep her from interrupting anything.

After the film, we walked back to the factory and was able to watch the beginning stages of their team making candy canes. It was so cool. If you want to watch some video of us on the tour and actually watching the candy being made, check out this reel on my instagram feed.

It was fun watching huge blocks of substances being wrapped, cut, and teased into candy. The kids had an amazing time. They watched the processes in awe.

Mid-summer is when they began production for their Christmas season, so our tour guide said this is the best time to come because it’s really busy and you get to see a lot more candies being made.

After watching the candies being made and learning more about production and machinery, you exit the factory into the gift shop. The tour guide handed everyone a free lollipop on their way out.

The gift shop is one of the best candy stores you will go into so be prepared. They have so many flavors of jelly beans and candy canes. They also have a chocolate stand. My kids went a little crazy and we ended up buying $95 worth of candy.

This is a can’t miss activity if you’re visiting Denver or already live here. We all had a great time. After it was finished, we headed straight to the park so the kids could run off their sugar high.

Oh! And don’t forget to ask for these adorable hats when you go. They’re free too and makes for some adorable photos.
