Colorado Hot Springs for Kids: Old Town Hot Springs

I was so excited to finally visit Steamboat Springs, CO. About 160 miles from Denver, Steamboat Springs is located in Yampa Valley.

And I’ve been hearing about it since I moved to Colorado.

It is the cutest town with beautiful views. As soon as we arrived, I knew I was going to have a great time.

One of the main reasons I wanted to visit Steamboat Springs is to indulge in their hot springs. They have several options for soaking in these magical mineral waters.

Hot springs are geothermally heated groundwater that rises from the Earth’s crust and is naturally heated and contains several minerals that are beneficial to our bodies and health.

Old Town Hot Springs
We took the kids to Old Town Hot Spring, which is a family-friendly hot springs in downtown Steamboat.

Old Town Hot Springs is an actual recreation center in town built around the hot springs. This hot springs is very family friendly with bathrooms, locker rooms, and a small store that sells snacks, sunscreen, and other essentials you may have forgotten. They also have a gym and offer massages.

According to the website. The water at Old Town Hot Spring contains the following minerals:

  • Boron
  • Phosphate
  • Lithium
  • Potassium
  • Chloride
  • Fluoride Sodium
  • Calcium
  • Sulfate
  • Magnesium
  • Silica
  • Manganese

The most abundant minerals in the hot pools are chloride, sodium, sulfate, silica and calcium. Lithium and sulfate are known for their relaxing qualities.

This hot springs also has three different pools to hang out in. The three pools vary in temperature from 98 to 104 degrees. I love the hot hot pools, but it’s smart to start with the least hot and work your way up to the hotter pools if you’re new to exploring hot springs. And the pools are large enough that even when it is crowded, there’s still space to spread out without feeling like you are super close to other people.

If you’re going solo without kids, they do have one adult only pool.

Old Town Hot Springs does not require reservations.

Some cool features that this hot springs has that I haven’t seen in other hot springs is a climbing wall and two 230 foot waterfalls.

The kids loved the climbing wall and tried climbing to the top several times. After 3-4 tries, both of my older kids made it to the top. Check out my reel to see video of the hot springs: Old Town Hot Springs Reel.
