How to Attract Customers, Brands, and/or Media with your Instagram Account


There are so many people, businesses, and creators who are trying to figure out how to use social media to grow their brand or business.

I’ve been a content creator my entire career. From creating websites for Fortune 100 companies to helping brands and small businesses build a social media presence, I’ve seen the industry change so much over the years.

So the advice that I’m about to give you is bigger than algorithms or one social platform. This advice will lead you to becoming a master of your online content.

Once you understand these concepts, you can use them to grow any business across multiple channels.

Disclaimer — You won’t find the typical post every day at 8 am kind of tips below. I don’t actually believe in giving blanket tips that are suppose to apply to every account across the board. Every account and community is unique, or they should be. And you have to figure out the unique system that works for growing your account.

3 Tips for Elevating Your Instagram Content to Attract the Right People to Your Page

Tip #1: How to beat the algorithm

Instagram’s main goal is to keep people on the platform as long as possible. So your main goal in order to get in good with the algorithm is to keep people on your page as long as possible.

How do you do this?

By being authentic! Hear me out. Everyone is copying everyone else. Everyone is trying to be who they think people want them to be. If you can be confident enough to break out of expectations and really show up as your unique self, you’ll attract not just an audience but raving fans.

These raving fans will appreciate your authenticity so much than even when Instagram starts instagraming, these people will come find you and your content.

Tip #2: How do I increase the engagement on my page
There are three main ways to increase your engagement on social media. Also, content plays an important role in this, but tip #3 focuses on content so I won’t discuss it here.

Here are the 3 ways to increase the engagement on your page:

  1. Engage with Other Accounts.

    When you need to increase your engagement, an important question to ask yourself is, how am I showing up on social media? Do you get on, post, and get off without engaging with your followers or other creators?

    On social media, and in life, like attracts like. So if you don’t support other creators, people will not support your page. Think of social media as a community and not a transactional place. You would never walk up to a stranger and say, “Do you like my dress?” Friendships are important on social media and in life.
  2. Ask you audience what they want to see.

    You really have to connect with the people who already follow you. Ask them questions about your content. Ask them what they want to see on your page. Also, check your analytics. What are your most popular posts? What gets your people excited about your content?

    You can ask your audience through story polls, reels, or even dm’s. If you know an ideal community member (so much better than calling them followers, right?) in real life, ask them too.
  3. Create content that is clear, vulnerable, and tells a story. Your content has got to be interesting. Do you watch shows or movies that aren’t interesting? Of course not. So tell an interesting story, share an interesting perspective, and really get real and personable on your page.


Tip 3: How to Attract Big Brands, Media Attention, and/or Customers

The thing that will make you stand out on social media, especially Instagram, more than anything else is telling your unique story.

Who are you?
Let people in. Show them the real you. Figure out your unique story and tell it over and over again from different perspectives and in different ways.

Why do people find your story interesting? Figure out how to create micro content that highlights the most interesting parts of your story.

Why do you do ?
If you’re an influencer show people behind the scenes of your life. How do you create video. Why did you choose your niche? If you have a business,

What’s your call to action for your community?
Do you sell something you want your audience to buy? Do you have an email address you want your audience to sign up for? Or maybe you want your community members to like and share your post. Don’t be afraid to speak up and tell the people watching your content what the next step is to support your story.

Bonus Tip

The first bonus tip is to get really comfy and familiar with your insights. When you go into your insights, focus on exploring your top performing content. Really hyper focus on the top three performing pieces of content and journal about them. You want to ask yourself:

  • why did this perform so well?
  • did you like creating it?
  • why did your audience like it?
  • what type of engagement did it get, likes, comments, shares, or saves?
  • what makes this content unique compared to other similar content in your niche?
  • how can you recreate this content multiple times and still keep the message fresh and interesting?

Second, make sure you’re posting on the most popular days for your audience and at the right time when your audience is most active. You’ll find this information in insights too.

Lastly, look at your follower demographics. Who are they? What’s their age, location, sex? Make sure you’re creating content that connects to them.
